The Golf Rules Made Easy in Sports Directory
The concept for Golf Rules Made Easy began in 1995. At that time Sue Murray was the Rules & Handicap Chairperson at Pinebrook Golf & Country Club. She felt a Rule of the Week poster would help members become more familiar with the Rules of Golf. Twenty posters were developed and a different one was posted each week. The response was very favorable not only from members but also from visiting players from other clubs. Many clubs requested a copy of the posters. The following year, 1996, twenty new posters (Series A) were created and Rosemary Gillard, an accomplished artist and member at the same club, volunteered her talent to illustrate each poster. All of the copies printed were snapped up by rules people from clubs in Western Canada at a National Rules Clinic held in Calgary. A second printing was undertaken to supply the interested clubs in Calgary and surrounding area. A comment from many rules people was, Ive been meaning to do the same thing for years now, but it was too time consuming and too much work. In 1997, 20 new posters (Series B) were developed and sold to previous clients and many new ones, paricularly from the United States. Series C followed with many of the ideas for the posters based on questions Sue received from golfers after a round of golf when a trouble situation arose and the player did not know the proper ruling. Due to the growing popularity of Match Play, Series D was created in 1999 with poster topics focusing on Match Play rules. With the introduction of a new Rulebook on January 1, 2000 nine posters in print became obsolete. These posters were re-written and made available so that clubs could bring their collection of posters up to date. Misinformation about rules is very harmful and difficult to eradicate, so it was important to remove these nine outdated posters from circulation. Each topic in the latest set of posters, Series E, was carefully chosen to incorporate the many new Rules introduced in the January 1, 2000 edition of the Rules of Golf. With the introduction of the January 1, 2004 Rules of Golf all the 100 posters in circulation were scrutinized for any Rule/Decision changes and replacement posters were created and made available to customers who purchased posters prior to January 1, 2004.
