Ever since I was a young and impressionable I have been around and exposed to the automotive industry. Essentially, I was raised in and around cars and the automotive industry and have always been interested in the auto performance industry. I became interested in performance when I was a young-un and proceeded to terrorize the streets of Lafayette, La. in my Throw-down 1957 Buick Century and my Mothers 1965 Buick Skylark GS. It was this period of enlightenment that helped forge and ignite the flame and desire to become active in drag racing. BUT, like so many of us all I accomplished was joining the ever-growing ranks of - the financially impaired Hot Rodder. Racing had to take a back burner - for awhile. After high school I was fortunate to marry my high school sweetheart Janace, joined the Air Force, had two [2] beautiful children, graduated from college, and then moved to Houston, TX. Janace and I would have to save up for weeks to save enough money [in the military then] to afford a set of spark plugs and entry fees to take my O/S Skylark to the local drag strips. I retired from my racing interest in the mid 1970s until the early 1980s when I read an article about the GSCA Nationals and the first Chuck Green Musclecar Shootout.
