Alan Trained as mechanical engineer before becoming involved in the adaptation of cars with various projects such as a Lotus twin cam Ford Thames 5cwt van ! and a Rolls Royce powered Moskivich estate !! At the age of 21 he moved on to build one offs and kit cars. The first car he built from scratch was a 2.5 TR6 powered Burlington Arrow, which was built from a set of plans (the car is still in use today). Other projects Alan was involved with included Lotus 7’s, Jaguar powered Vikings, and Lotus 7s. At the ripe old age of 25 he got the racing bug, and with the help of a very good friend John Tompson, a Lotus 7 was resurrected from a field and raced with great success. During the second season John passed away and the car was sold to a chap in Switzerland. From Alan’s share in the proceeds of the sale his entry into Formula Vee was assured by the purchase of an Austro. After the Austro came a Scarab Mk 2/4, then a Leastone, Currently Alan owns numerous Formula Vee’s which are rented out on a arrive and drive basis, these Vee’s consist of Leastone and Sheane Chassis powered by his very own AHS prepared engines. Alan’s involvement in Formula Vee became more intense when approximately 5 years ago he became the Formula representative for the 750 Motor Club, and member of the racing technical committee.
